Urban Area Boundary Revisions

The Columbia River Gorge Commission is considering new rules on three key policy questions relating to urban area boundary revisions.  The Commission intends to codify its work into its Revision of Urban Area Boundaries rules (Commission Rule 350-40).  At its October 14, 2008 meeting, the Commission will consider a recommendation from the Rules Committee to begin a "consensus rulemaking process" instead of its traditional rulemaking process.  In addition, the Commission will be touring Gorge urban areas on September 9 and October 28, 2008.  An itinerary is available under "Meeting Notices."  Click here for maps of each urban area.

The Gorge Commission has discussed this topic at two work sessions:  December 11, 2007 and June 10, 2008. A video of the first portion of the June 10, 2008 work session is available to view at the Gorge Commission office.  This part of the work session included comments from invited guests who were involved in discussions on the establishment of urban areas when the National Scenic Area Act was passed.
